E&S Engineer

JOB PURPOSE

The E&S engineer will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring environmental and social compliance during the construction phase of projects. This includes implementing and monitoring environmental and social management plans, conducting inspections and audits, compliance checks and assessing project adherence to relevant regulations and standards. This role requires a proactive and hands-on approach to implementing and monitoring Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMP) and associated ESIAs, ESAPs, CESMPs and conducting audits and inspections, and ensuring compliance with regulatory, corporate, and lenders’ standards. This position will also serve as a key coordination point for internal teams and external stakeholders (Especially local environmental regulatory bodies e.g. MoE, MEWA, NCEC, NCW, NCVC, MWAN, RC and others) to ensure all E&S requirements are integrated into project activities. The engineer will work closely with construction teams, contractors, and other stakeholders to identify and mitigate environmental and social risks, ensuring that construction activities are carried out in a sustainable and responsible manner.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Description

– Implement and monitor the Construction Environmental and Social Management Plan (CESMP).
– Conduct regular inspections and audits of construction sites to ensure compliance with environmental and social requirements.
– Identify and assess environmental and social risks associated with construction activities.
– Develop and implement mitigation measures to address identified risks.
– Ensure compliance with relevant environmental permits, licenses, and approvals.
– Manage waste disposal and pollution control measures during construction.
– Monitor and report on environmental and social performance indicators.
– Collaborate with construction teams, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance and address concerns.
– Provide training and awareness programs on environmental and social issues to construction personnel.
– Maintain accurate records and documentation of environmental and social performance.
– Participate in incident investigations and root cause analyses.
– Stay updated on relevant environmental and social regulations and standards.

– Implement approved departmental policies, processes, manuals and procedures, and ensure employee adherence so that work is carried out to the required standard.

– Manage and motivate the team to ensure they contribute to, and participate in, the identification and implementation of change initiatives, programmes, and projects in line with the organisation’s standards.
Related Assignments –

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:

Minimum Qualifications:

– Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science, Engineering, Sustainability, or a related field.
– ISO-14001:2015 Lead Auditor Course (preferable)

Minimum Experience:

– Proven 5+ years of experience in environmental and social management, with a focus
on construction projects.

– Preferred to have experience in conventional and renewable power generation and
desalination projects.

– Preferred to have experience in Marine Ecosystem.
– Strong understanding of international and local environmental and social regulations and
standards.

– Experience in conducting audits, developing ESMS, and managing environmental
compliance.
